The will book containing this instrument is no longer extant. Transcript of the will was made for use in a chancery case in Essex County, Virginia, possibly Thomas Brown v. Rice Fawcett

- Jonathan Clark was born about 1698. He became a large landowner in Virginia. Clark married Elizabeth Wilson about 1725, and they had four children, including John Clark (1726-1799) who was the father of George Rogers Clark (1752-1818), the Revolutionary War hero. Jonathan Clark died between 9 April 1734, when he wrote his will, and 24 June 1734, when it was recorded in the King and Queen County, Virginia, Court.
