- Letter, 15 August [1941?], from Irene Bland Jurix of Lake George, New York, to Haynes Trebor providing a sketch of James A. Bland (1854-1911) as student, House of Representatives page, songwriter, and travelling minstrel performer. Bland wrote over five hundred songs and ballads, among them "Carry Me Back to Old Virginny" in 1875, "In the Evening By the Moonlight," and "Oh, Dem Golden Slippers." Jurix states she is trying to finish the story of Bland's life "with the assistance of W.C. Handy, the father of the blues."
