- Letter, dated 20 November 1753, from Le Garduer de St. Pierre (1701-1755), commander of Fort Le Boeuf to Governor Robert Dinwiddie (1693-1770) of Virginia informing Dinwiddie that St. Pierre is acting under orders of Governor Duquesne of Canada and that Dinwiddie should direct his grievances to the governor. There are three copies of the letter

- Born in 1701, Le Garduer de St. Pierre was a French officer who explored parts of western Canada for France. He later commanded French troops at Fort Le Boeuf when George Washington arrived in November 1753 to ask the French to leave the Ohio Valley. St. Pierre was killed at the battle of Lake George 8 September 1755.
