- This collection consists of the commissions of Lewis Holladay as lieutenant of a company of Spotsylvania County militia (1775), captain of the 4th company of Spotsylvania County militia (1785), captain in militia of Spotsylvania County (1787), coroner of Spotsylvania County (1793), major of the 2nd battalion of the 16th regiment of militia (1793), and sheriff of Spotsylvania County (1804). Also includes commission of Joseph Holladay as inspector of tobacco at Fredericksburg (1761), commission of Joseph Holladay and Benjamin Holladay as inspectors of tobacco at Fredericksburg (1777), and a bill for tobacco shipped by Joseph Holladay, 1762

- Benjamin (d. 1785) and Joseph (d. 1795), were the children of John and Elizabeth Holladay, of "Bellefonte" plantation, Spotsylvania County, Virginia. John Holladay (d. 1742) had served as a major in the Virginia Rangers in 1702 and was a magistrate in Spotsylvania County. Joseph, fourth son of John and Elizabeth, was the inspector of tobacco at Fredericksburg, 1761 until his death on 24 July 1795. Joseph was married to Elizabeth (Betty) Lewis, daughter of Harry Lewis, and lived on the "Elmwood" plantation in Spotsylvania County, Virginia.
- Lewis Holladay, second son of Joseph and Elizabeth Holladay, was born 1 Sept. 1751. He married Elizabeth (Lewis) Littlepage (1732-1809), widow of James Littlepage and daughter of Zachary and Mary (Waller) Lewis, in 1774. Lewis served through the Revolutionary War and in the Spotsylvania militia (1775-1793), and as assesor (1779), coroner (1793), justice (1790), and sheriff (1804) of Spotsylvania County, Virginia. Lewis died October 1820 at the family home of "Bellefonte."
