- Daybook, 1803-1852, kept by Gordon Cloyd (1771-1833) of Montgomery County, Virginia. The first section consists of customer accounts for merchandise purchased from Cloyd, including cloth, household goods, hardware, spices, books and paper, and other items. The ledger pages are headed "Springfield," Cloyd's residence in Montgomery, and include the purchaser's name, item, and cost. The second section of the day book records account information for land entries and surveys made. There is an full name index at the beginning of this portion of the volume

- Gordon Cloyd was born on 19 March 1771. He was the son of Joseph Cloyd and Mary Gordon Cloyd. He married Elizabeth McGlavock on 13 February 1798 in Wythe County. They lived at their home "Springfield." Cloyd was sheriff of Montgomery County (1790), and was appointed county surveyor (1793). He represented Montgomery, Giles, Grayson, and Wythe Counties at the Virginia Constitutional Convention of 1829-1830. He died on 4 May 1833.
