- Land grant, 9 October 1804, for 1,580 acres between the Sciota (Scioto) and Little Miami Rivers in that part of the Northwest Territory which had just become Ohio to Nathaniel Massie (1763-1813). The land grant was based on military warrants numbers 4328, 3206, and parts of 4642 and 1089. The rights to these warrants were assigned by John Walker, Albion Throckmorton, Thomas Payne, and Benjamin Brooks for their revolutionary war service in the Virginia Line of the Continental Army. This copy of the land was transcribed from the Land Office Book volume 3, p. 485 1 October 1814

- Nathaniel Massie was born 28 December 1763 in Goochland County, Virginia, to Nathaniel Massie and Elizabeth Watkins Massie (d. 1775). Massie received an education, but at age 17 joined the Virginia militia to fight in the Revolution in 1780 and 1781. In 1783, Massie moved to Kentucky where he became a noted surveyor of Kentucky and Northwest Territory lands. Exploring the lands of the Northwest Territory that later became Ohio. He surveyed 750,000 acres of land between 1791 and 1801 receiving cash or a share of the land in payment. He often bought military land warrants. Massie established the town of Manchester, Ohio, in 1791, and Chillicothe, Ohio, in 1796. A prime mover in Ohio statehood and politics, Massie lost election to be the governor of Ohio in 1807. He married Susan Everard Meade in 1800, and they had at least five children. Massie died in Chillicothe 3 November 1813.
