- Sherwin McRae was born in 1805 in Chesterfield County, Virginia, to Archibald McRae (1773-1809) and Tabitha Randolph Sherwin McRae. Sherwin McRae moved to King William County, Virginia, and became a lawyer. He later resettled in Richmond, Virginia. McRae served as Secretary of the Commonwealth and as State Librarian. He married Sarah Ann Johnson (1816-1900) 4 January 1832, and they had at least four children. McRae died in Richmond 25 June 1889 and was buried in Hollywood Cemetery.
