- Born 14 July 1831 in Pomfret, Windsor County, Vermont, Alexander Bowman Chandler elisted as a sergeant in the 1st Vermont Cavalry during the Civil War. He was promoted to lieutenant, then captain. After the war, Chandler married Ellen Matilda Miller 11 July 1866.
