- An undated letter from Mary Randolph Custis Lee (1807-1873) to Margaret Randolph Dickens, enclosing locks of hair from Robert E. Lee (1807-1873), Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826), and Andrew Jackson (1767-1845) and a photograph of Lee. Mrs. Lee also regrets that Lee is too unwell for a signature. Also included in the original were a button off the coat of George Washington (1732-1799) and stars from Lee's coat collar

- Mary Anne Randolph Custis Lee was born at Annefield, Clarke County, Virginia, on 1 October 1808. She was the daughter of George Washington Parke Custis and Mary Lee Fitzhugh. She married Robert E. Lee at Arlington House on 30 June 1831. She died in Lexington, Virginia on 5 November 1873.
