- Muster roll, 1847, the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Regiment of the Virginia Militia lists the officers and men of the Orange Springs Company commanded by Captain James W. Graves
- Biographical or historical data
- James W. Graves was a prominent citizen of Orange County, Virginia, and very active in the county militia. He married Sarah Jane Graves (d. ca. 1878) and they had children. Graves died between 29 September 1856, when he wrote his will, and 24 November 1856, when it was proved in the Orange County Court.
