- Jacob Kessler Simmons was born on 14 December 1840. He was a farmer in Botetourt County, Virginia and served as first sergeant in Company A (Blue Ridge Rifles), of the 28th Virginia Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. After war, Simmons graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1869 and became a doctor. He died in Botetourt County on 9 May 1927.
