- Biographical or historical data
- Nathaniel Powell arrived in Jamestown, Virginia, in 1607, and helped John Smith explore the surrounding country. Powell drew one of the earliest maps of Virginia. He also received several grants of land, including grants south of the James River. Powell was a member of the governor's council and served as governor of Virginia from 9 April 1619 to 19 April 1619. He, his wife Joyce Tracy Powell (d. 1622), and their only child were killed in the indian uprising of 22 March 1622.
