- This collection comprises the papers, 1917-1999, of Howard Upshur Creery (1895-1977), a World War I veteran from Richmond, Virginia. FOLDER ONE contains photographs taken during Anne Creery's (1907-1999) service in the Virginia Governor's Office in the 1960's and 1970's. FOLDER TWO has clippings, letters, booklets, certificates, memorabilia, and a photograph related to Howard Creery's employment at Miller and Rhoads department store. FOLDER THREE includes inaugural invitations for Presidents Kennedy and Nixon and a certificate issued to the Creery's by President George H.W. Bush. FOLDER FOUR holds photographs and military records related to Creery's service in World War I. FOLDER FIVE contains Creery's World War I dictionary, diary, and Bibles. FOLDER SIX comprises greeting cards and miscellaneous material. FOLDER SEVEN has clippings and letters concerning Anne Creery's tenure working in the Virginia Governor's Office. FOLDER EIGHT contains postcards and pamphlets concerning the Creery's travels. FOLDER NINE has certicates and annoucements including the Creery's marriage certificate and an obituary for Howard Creery. FOLDER TEN houses Creery's American Legion membership cards along with a membership roster

- Howard Upshur Creery was born on 11 August 1895 to Joseph L. and Sally R. Parker Creery of Richmond, Virginia. He attended public schools in Richmond and then earned a position as a clerk for the American Locomotive Company. On 4 June 1917 he enlisted in the First Virginia Cavalry, National Guard and was assigned to C Company. He also served in the 104th Ammunition Train, 29th Division, G Company. After earning a promotion from private to corporal in the early summer of 1918, Creery embarked to serve in the United States forces fighting in Europe. He was stationed at Camp DeMeucon near Vannes, France from late summer to November 1918. Corporal Creery returned to the United States in May 1919. He was married to Anne Roselle Bourne Creery (1907-1999) on 24 August 1936 in Washington, D.C.
