- Alexander Glas Strachan was born 29 July 1748 near Edinburgh, Scotland. He attended the University of Edinburgh and studied medicine. Strachan migrated to King William County, Virginia, about 1766, then to Petersburg, Virginia, by 1772. He practiced medicine and opened an apothecary shop. Strachan became a successful and wealthy physician. He married first Lucy Pride (1759-1780) of Surry County, Virginia, 6 November 1777, and married second Sarah Feild (b. 1764) 12 June 1783. Strachan had a total of eight children by his wives. Strachan died 7 December 1812.
