- William Menefee was born about 1730 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. By 1777, he had moved to Henry County, Virginia, where he took the Oath of Allegiance to the Commonwealth of Virginia during the Revolution. Two of his sons served in the militia during the war. Menefee moved to Knox County, Tennessee about 1795. He married Mildred Johnson (b. ca. 1734) and they had 6 children. Menefee died in December 1797.
