- Joel Jones was a prosperous planter living in Hanover County, Virginia. He owned the Meadowbridge and Prospect Hill plantations in Hanover County. He and his wife Catharine had at least four children. Jones died by 29 April 1835 when his will was proved in the Hanover County Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery.
