- George Carrington was born 1 July 1711 in Barbados and immigrated to Virginia in 1723, settling in Goochland County, Virginia. He became a surveyor and amassed large amounts of land which was the foundation of his wealth. Carrington became a justice of the peace and sheriff of Goochland County, and represented the county in the House of Burgesses in 1746 and 1748-1749. When Cumberland County, Virginia, was formed from Goochland County, Carrington, whose home was located there, became surveyor and a justice of the peace. In 1752, he was appointed presiding judge of the county court. Carrington represented Cumberland County in the House of Burgesses from 1752 to 1765, 1778 to 1781, and 1783. He married Ann Mayo (1712-1785) 26 June 1732, and they had eleven children. Carrington died at his home "Boston Hill" in Cumberland County 7 February 1785.
