- Peter Lyons was born in Ireland in 1734 or 1735 in Ireland, and may have studied at Trinity College, University of Dublin. He moved to King William County, Virginia, before 1756 and studied law under James Power. Lyons was admitted to the bar 5 February 1756. Shortly after 1756, Lyons moved to Hanover County, Virginia, where he practiced law and operated a plantation. He was appointed a judge of the General Court 20 October 1779 and a judge of the Court of Appeals 24 October 1788, a position he held until his death. Lyons married first Mary Catherine Power (d. 1773) and second Judith Bassett (d. 1803), and had at least five children from these two marriages. Lyons died in Hanover County, Virginia, 30 July 1809.
