- Letter, 17 February 1863, from Rufus F. White (1840-1918), while he was serving with the 48th North Carolina Infantry at Huguenot Springs, Powhatan County, Virginia, to Elizabeth White (b. ca. 1806) and Margaret A. White (b. ca. 1839). Subjects include his health and convalescence at a military hospital in Culpeper County, measles, contracting bronchitis, his transfer to another hospital, and his slow recovery. He also asks them to write, inquires about people back home, and mentions the lack of furloughs for his unit. A transcription of the letter is included

- Rufus F. White was born on 7 August 1840. He enlisted on 1 August 1862 in Iredell County, North Carolina, and was mustered into the 48th North Carolina Infantry. White died on 12 June 1918.
